The Design Language — For the designers, by a designer.

What do you understand by design and what it takes to be a thinker and imaginative person first then designer later? Here are some key points I view as in my opinion.

01

Designing is not something you just “do” but it just gets along with you. There are no boundaries but there is a craft included in this beautiful art.

02

Consistency is the key in design, if you are a designer or wanted to be the one, you should always be consistent about the patterns, colours, layouts, iconography and the journey, the user is taking.

03

There should also be a design guide which will help you and others to understand the language you are writing in this process.

04

You must always do your research, create personas and always start from sketching and wire-framing. Pencil and papers are the two best friends of the designer/creator.

05

Always and always take care of typography. Figure out your product, see what type of audience is there to use your product, and then finalise what typography you want to go with. Believe me, typography plays a very important and crucial role in the conversion of your user into a customer. If typography looks good, the user will read your content, understand what you want to offer and then becomes your customer.

06

Be ready for the explicit explanation and always must answer with proper research and support your answer with the positive trend in the design industry. You are great if you want your trend to be followed but you are excellent if you go with the design principals.

07

Always discuss and consult with the person who is going to work on your designs. There are a lot of questions in his/her mind like:

  • Are the designs feasible?
  • Are users ready for this?
  • Do users will even understand this?
  • Is this even possible to create?
  • What knowledge do you have in development?

08

There is no harm in taking inspirations from the people or industry leaders who have already excelled in their domain. Even take inspirations for people who might not have design experience but they can really help you in the user experience journey. Just be open listening to the ideas. Take the best out of everything, and solve the puzzle & I assure you it will look excellent in the long run.

09

Once you are done with the sketching, wire-framing and designing, then just sit & relax. Review your design, and ask people for the feedbacks whom you even don’t know and ask for an unbiased opinion.

10

Look for the feedbacks as they are important and very crucial. You may not like them and maybe the feedback is illogical but you have your research (refer point 4) and you have all the answers you need to put on the table.

11

In the end, you will always learn and learn in a better way. You will find the mistakes you have made but eventually, you will become finer and crisp.
